Did you know that since the start of Earth Day in 1970, over 1 billion individuals have been mobilized for the future of the planet along with over 75,000 partners who are working to drive positive change? I’m so happy to be along those 1 billion individuals and to be partnering up with one of those 75,000 partners, Knockaround, to challenge others to celebrate the world we live on this Earth Day!
Knockaround is so passionate about helping to protect and clean-up our environment, that the company initially wanted to help promote “plogging”! What is plogging? Simple – the act of picking up trash while running.
With the coronavirus pandemic, however, Knockaround shifted their focus from “plogging” to showing an appreciation for the outdoors. Now, more than ever, I personally am appreciative of the time I am able to spend outdoors. I’m grateful to live in an area of California that although there are current stay at home orders, our local government is still allowing citizens to get outside for some fresh air. I, in fact, spend much of my time working from home outside (yes, sometimes with a glass of wine in hand 🍷).
Rarely am I found outside without a pair of sunglasses on. In fact, a friend recently sent me a message that read, “When you die, I claim your sunglasses collection!” Seriously, no joke.
My latest pair of sunnies, my special release Knockaround Neon Jungle sunglasses, are now one of my favorites! While on Zoom the other day with my class of 5th grade students, one of the boys asked how he could get himself a pair and how much they cost. (I love my students!) I happily told my adorable student that Knockaround is proud to offer affordable shades since 2005. (Discount code below.)
Moving on to another topic, let’s talk about tree hugging. Did you know that tree hugging has been shown to soothe and strengthen body and mind? Simply seeing trees makes us feel calmer, leading to lower heart rate and blood pressure. Hugging a tree (just like hugging a human) increases levels of oxytocin, aka the love hormone, which reduces stress and increases happiness. (source)
So, if you’re feeling down, quickly get outside and hug a tree! Post a pic on the socials of your tree hugging experience and tag Knockaround, BibRave and me, RunStrongRun. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #EarthDayKnocksBR. 😎
