Review: Oofos… Feel the Ooo

Disclaimer: I received a pair of Oofos to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

I don’t know about you, but the first thing that I want to do after a run, is take my shoes off (not to mention also taking off all of my sweaty clothes)!  After I take my shoes off, the question then becomes, “What do I put on my feet?”  Before Oofos entered my life, I’d normally just throw on any ‘ol pair of sandals.  Now, however, with my Oofos, my body can tell a difference and its thrilled!

Makes you say, “Oooo”

Oofos slogan, “Feel the Ooo”, is so appropriate!  I can guarantee that the first time you put on a pair of Oofos, you will make an audible, “Oooo” sound.  Here’s a clip of my 12 year old putting on a pair of Oofos for the first time. (Note: When he says, “It feels weird,” what he really means is, “It feels so amazing!”)

My husband also tried on my Oofos.  After trying them on, he quickly hopped online to purchase himself a pair.  Here’s my husband and son discussing how amazing the Oofos felt and trying to decide which color to buy.

What’s so great about Oofos?

  1. ABSORBS MORE SHOCK THAN TRADITIONAL FOAMS – Traditional athletic shoe foams are designed to “rebound” and propel you forward. With OOfoam, however, it does the opposite, absorbing 37% more shock with every step than traditional footwear foam.
  2. REDUCES STRESS ON SORE FEET, KNEES AND BACK – Your feet and joints take a pounding on hard surfaces everyday. Slipping on OOFOS after a workout, provides them with relief and a chance to recover.
  3. CRADLES YOUR ARCHES – Unlike flip-flops, the OOFOS patented footbed is designed with tremendous arch support to take the pressure off of ankles, knees and hips, as well as your lower back.
  4. ENABLES MORE NATURAL MOTION – Biomechanically designed, OOFOS flex with both your foot and the ground. The soft, flexible OOfoam material enables your foot to articulate the way nature intended. (Oofos.com)

An Everyday Shoe

While testing out my Oofos, my husband and I traveled to Cancun, Mexico.  Yes, my Oofos most certainly came along with us!  Here’s my Oofos on the beach.

img_7027Here’s my Oofos on our kayak. (The Oofos are made with a moisture resistant closed cell foam which is shower-ready and machine washable!)

After spending a whole day walking around with my brown sandals on, I could not wait to put on my Oofos to finally feel some relief from my tried feet, ankles, knees, and back!

Although my pair of Women’s OOriginal Sport Sandal may seem a little big, it’s amazing how lightweight they are!  They provide the support my body needs while adding minimal weight to my feet!

One Monday evening, while at my friend’s house to watch the Bachelorette, my friend asked, “Are those Oofos really as great as you say they are?”

I then took off my Oofos, handed them to her, and said, “Try them on for yourself.”

As soon as she put them on, she giggled and said, “Wow!  These are amazing!”

Recently, while at the Oakland Town’s Half expo representing the California International Marathon, I spotted some Oofos for sale at a booth across from me.  I so badly wanted to purchase a pair of the Women’s OOlala sandals, but I was a good girl and kept my wallet put away.  (I’ve spent way too much money lately for my classroom!)

In the end, I’d highly recommend that everyone own at least one pair of Oofos.  Wear them before you workout, after you workout, and even on your rest days like I did below.

Do you own a pair of Oofos?  If so, what do you think about them?  If you don’t own a pair of Oofos, what do you normally wear after a hard run / workout?

Disclaimer: I received two Smell Well packages to review (and giveaway) as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews!

Stinky shoes and gym bags are two of the worst smells ever!  If you’re like me and travel for races, then you’ve probably thrown your sweaty shoes / clothes in a bag after a hard workout.  When you’re back home and ready to open your bag back up, you plug your nose because you know the bag is about to reek!  Guess what?  Those days are now over!

I recently traveled for the Utah Valley Marathon and had to throw my stinky, sweaty clothes in my suitcase after the race because I had a flight to catch.  When I got back home, much to my surprise, my suitcase smelled pleasant and my clothes weren’t moist since I used Smell Well.

Besides making your clothes / shoes / gym bags smell fresher, here are the other benefits of using Smell Well:

  • Moisture absorbing
  • Removes nasty odors
  • Free from hazardous chemicals, non-allergenic and environmentally friendly
  • Available in a variety of colors and patterns.

After seeing one of my posts about Smell Well, a friend texted me and asked, “Does it really work?”  I told her yes, it really does!  I will confess that I sweat a lot.  My feet sweat all the time, even in sandals!  I like that Smell Well doesn’t just cover up the smell, it eliminates it while absorbing the moisture!

Review: Adidas Ultraboost X Shoes

Disclaimer: I received a pair of Adidas UltraBoost X shoes to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to find and write race reviews!

The first running shoe that I purchased at a running specialty store was an Asics shoe. Since 2012, I have mainly stuck with the same Asics Gel Nimbus shoe.  (I may or may not currently have 6 pairs of Asics Gel Nimbus shoes in my closet.)  I have had some minor issues with blistering, but have been overall satisfied with the shoe.

When presented with the opportunity to try out the new Adidas UltraBoost X shoes, I said, “Yes, please!”  I wondered, could this shoe truly give me that extra boost of energy?  Could this shoe provide the cushioning I enjoy with my Asics?  How would it feel to wear a shoe that fits more like a sock?

Needless to say, I was quite excited when my shoes arrived!

Review: BUFF UV Arm Sleeves

Disclaimer: I received a pair of  BUFF UV arm sleeves to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro (ambassador), and check out BibRave.com to review, find, and write race reviews!

When I first started running in 2011, I didn’t own a smart watch, a fuel belt, compression socks, nor any arm sleeves.  Now, I don’t know what I would do without all of the amazing running accessories I have found!

One of the latest accessories I have discovered are BUFF UV arm sleeves.  I’ll be honest and say that up until this point, I mainly used knee high socks with the toes cut off as my make-shirt arm sleeves.  Now that I own a pair of real arm sleeves, I won’t be going back to the altered, cotton knee-high socks ever again!

When my BUFF UV arm sleeves first arrived I was a little skeptical.  I wondered if they’d fit, if they’d be uncomfortable, and if I’d get too hot.  Fortunately, I used the sizing chart (shown below) before ordering, so yes, they fit!  Yes, they were comfortable (besides the minor inner arm irritation due to the tag.  Perhaps I’ll end up cutting the tag off.)!  No, I did not get too hot.  CHART_arm-sleeves-run_588x305

My fist time taking out my new BUFF UV arm sleeves, I headed to the nearby levee for a short evening run.  I thought I would feel claustrophobic in the arm sleeves, but thankfully that was not the case.  As soon as I began to sweat a little, the sleeves actually helped to keep me cool.  As stated at BUFFusa.com,  “The highly breathable polyester material wicks moisture, is comfortable next to the skin, and blocks harmful rays.”

img_0930

Next, I wanted to test out the BUFF UV arm sleeves for a longer run, so I packed them in my bag when I headed to Reno, Nevada for the Downtown River Run marathon. Yes, I wore the arm sleeves for the entire 6 hour, 26.2 mile race!  At the start of the race it was 37 degrees Fahrenheit.  At the finish line, it was close to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The sleeves helped to keep my warm at the starting line and cool towards the finish line. When I started getting warm during the race, I simply poured water over the sleeves at the aid station.  With the sleeve’s breath-ability and moisture wicking technology, I stayed nice and cool while keeping my arms protected from the sun’s damaging UV rays.

Speaking of the sun’s rays, one thing I learned during the Downtown River Run was to put sunscreen on my hands.  Can you tell where the BUFF UV arm sleeve ended?

img_1317-1

I tested the BUFF UV arm sleeves again during the Rina’s Run half marathon. Again, the sleeves helped to keep me warm at the starting line and cool toward the end of the race.  I didn’t have to worry about my arms getting sunburned since the sleeves provide UPF 40+ protection! (*Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) measures the amount of UV radiation that penetrates a fabric and reaches your skin. A fabric rated with a UPF of 40 will allow only 1/40th of the sun’s UV rays to pass through.)

Some of the other things I love about the BUFF UV arm sleeves are the reflective elements strategically placed for better visibility in low-light conditions, the elastic upper with engineered silicone grip so that the sleeve is held comfortably in place, the ease in pulling them on and off as needed, and that the sleeves are light, packable protection that fit nicely in a pack or pocket.

If you have any questions and/or comments about the BUFF UV arm sleeves, please feel free to leave me a comment.  I’d love to hear from you!

BUFF® USA will be sponsoring the weekly #Bibchat on Tuesday, June 6th at 8pm CST on Twitter. You could win a set of UV BUFF® USA Arm Sleeves for chatting! You can also check out BUFF®USA on Facebook and Instagram!

AfterShokz Trekz Titanium Pink Review

You, like me, probably can’t imagine a workout without music.  Whether on the treadmill, at the gym, or outside, music is what keeps us going.  Has there ever been a time, however, that you’ve been put in a dangerous situation because you had headphones in and couldn’t hear what was going on around you?  Yes, this has happened to me too, on numerous occasions.  But wait, there’s good news!  Let me tell you about it…
