Forget Boring. Try Mezcla Instead.

Life is too short to eat a boring, dull-tasting protein bar. Fortunately, there’s Mezcla, a plant based protein bar that brings innovation and personality to the protein bar space!

Plant Based Protein

If you choose a vegan or vegetarian diet, expect that everyone will begin to ask you about your protein consumption. Sadly, many people are misled to believe that protein can only be found in animal based products such as meat, eggs, dairy, etc. This, however, is not the case.

I began my journey as a no meat athlete in 2012. Since then I have run 20 full marathons and countless smaller races. A simple Google search would show you that there are many world-class vegan and/or vegetarian athletes who thrive off of planet based protein. One of my favorite vegan runners is Scott Jurek. I highly recommend that you read his book, Eat & Run.

One great source of plant based protein is peas. According to healthline, “Pea protein is a high-quality protein and a great source of iron. It can aid muscle growth, weight loss and heart health.” This is what makes the Mezcla bars a great plant based protein bar. The first ingredient found in each of the three bar varieties is pea crisp, a combination of pea protein and rice starch.

The Taste Test

To my fellow mamas, you know how picky your children can be when it comes to healthy meals and snacks. This is why I enlisted the help of my two teenagers to taste test the Mezcla protein bars.

Forget boring. Try Mezcla, a plant based protein bar, instead.

The bars come in three flavors: Japanese Matcha Vanilla Crunch, Peruvian Cocoa Peanut Butter, and Mexican Chipotle Hot Chocolate. The bar that won the heart of both myself as well as the teenagers was the Peruvian Cocoa Peanut Butter bar. Can you ever go wrong when combining peanut butter and chocolate?!

The bar that won for its surprise factor was the Mexican Chipotle Hot Chocolate. At first it tastes chocolatey, but then there’s a surprise pop of spice at the end. The final ingredient of this bar is chili pepper and for someone who doesn’t eat a whole lot of spice, it was noticeable, but not uncomfortably hot.

As for the Japanese Matcha Vanilla Crunch, I enjoyed the white chocolate base, but was not a huge fan of the matcha flavor. Just as I don’t do a whole lot of spice, I also don’t do a whole lot of matcha. I’m matcha ya girl when it comes to matcha. lol

Every Mezcla plant based protein bar is only 170 calories, contains 10 grams of plant protein, is vegan, gluten free, non-gmo, soy free, and dairy free! All of this coupled with it’s great taste makes the Mezcla bars a healthy, protein bar option for you as well as your family.

A Protein Bar with Personality

Probably one of my favorite things about the Mezcla protein bars is its connection to the arts. Hand-drawn designs can be found on the front of each wrapper as well as a QR code that leads to a constantly changing virtual art gallery!

The Mezcla Movement’s mission is to celebrate artists from around the world. You, or a fellow artist in your life, can send your art submissions to art@eatmezcla.com for a chance to be featured! Be sure to use the subject line “[Your Name] – Mezcla Gallery Submission”. Currently, the three featured artists are from Japan, Mexico, and Peru.
