1. Get Real with Yourself

The first step in crushing your big life goals is getting real with yourself. Spend some time in contemplation asking yourself not only what you truly desire, but why. Every idea that comes to mind write it down without wondering how or when it’s going to happen.

This time of contemplation may be done over a single day or over a course of several days. Get excited about what it is you truly want to accomplish.

Let me introduce you to my friend, Amy.

A few weeks ago, Amy told me that she wanted to do a 5k someday. I responded with, “Awesome! When?” ⁣⁣

With dismay she replied, “Uh… I don’t know. I hadn’t really thought about it.”

This brings us to step two.

2. Choose and Date 3 – 5 Goals

The second step in crushing your big life goals is to narrow your broad list down to 3 – 5 goals and then put a date to them. This may seem like a scary step to take, but remember that a goal without a date is just a dream.

Let’s take a look at Amy’s goal of someday completing a 5k. After briefly considering a date to accomplish this goal, we decided to set a date of September 6th, about six months from our original conversation.

By setting a date to Amy’s goal, her dream of “someday completing a 5k” all of the sudden got real.

3. Take Action to Crush Your Goals

Now that you have narrowed your list down to 3 – 5 goals and placed a date to each of them, it’s time to take action. Ask yourself what little steps you can do everyday that will lead to your big results.

Add these little steps to your calendar, schedule them in, and set them as a priority. If you schedule time to meet up with friends, go on a date, etc., then you can certainly schedule time for yourself!

Amy took action to accomplish her goal of someday completing a 5k by purposefully scheduling in time to move her body. Some days this meant going on a walk to a nearby park, other days this looked like participating in PE with her students.

Remember, imperfect action is far superior to perfect inaction.

4. Get Support

Now that you’re in forward momentum and taking action to crush your life goals, it’s time to find some support. Support can come in the form of a family member, friend, online community, and/or coach.

When looking for a support person, or group of people, you’re going to want to find those who will hold you accountable while being your number one cheerleader.

Unsurprisingly, I am on Amy’s support team. We check in with one another via Facetime twice a week as well as sending messages to one another almost daily.

5. Stay Focused to Crush Your Goals

⁣⁣You’ve put in the work and you’ve uncovered your top life goals! Now what?

Now it’s time to stay focused. There will be distractions bombarding you every day, so be sure to write these 3 – 5 life goals down and keep them in front of you at all times! Even better, put a picture to each of your life goals.

Your mind thinks in pictures, not words. As you look at the pictures you’ve placed with each life goal, your mind will go to work to make the goal a reality!

Let’s revisit Amy’s goal of “someday completing a 5k”. Would you be shocked if I told you that her “someday” was April 11th, not September 6th? Yes, less than a month from first voicing that she wanted to do a 5k someday, she made it happen!

Amy and I met up on April 11th to complete the Virtual Women’s Half Marathon 5k along with thousands of women all around the world. Although it was just Amy and I traversing her neighborhood, we had a whole tribe of women completing the race with us! Those big, audacious goals you’re chasing may seem impossible now, but know that with each step forward, you WILL make it happen! ⁣⁣
