Transformation Tuesday

From my first marathon to my twentieth! 💥 Yes, my time was significantly slower, but so was my training and surroundings leading up to the race.

In March 2012, I was a teacher living and working in Mexico. I was single and did not have any kids. Every day I spent at least an hour either at the gym or running… and often doing both! I trained for my first marathon for about 4 months. My longest training run was 18 miles. On the course and at the finish line I had friends cheering me on. When I returned to my classroom the next day, many of my 3rd grade students had made me cards congratulating me.

Fast forward nearly 8 years later to December 2019. I am a teacher in California. I am happily married with three kids; the youngest just turned one. As for going to the gym or running? This is pretty hit and miss. My longest training run was my last half marathon in October. Although I saw a few people from the running community on the course and at the finish line, I did not have any friends nor family members there cheering me on. When I returned to my classroom the next day, many of my 5th grade students did not seem impressed that I had just run my 20th marathon.

Will I ever get back to a 4:31:23 marathon? Maybe. But for now, I’m going to celebrate my 5:33:17 marathon, appreciate my family, and thank God for all He has done in my life. 💗

Until next time,
